Thank you,

I recently discovered this Olympus recorder (they are the quality camera
people and a quality prominent old company). After analysis I took the
plunge and became a reseller to complement Freedomike and Optoma Projectors.
The price is $259 with a 11 hour plug in SmartMedia card. Cards are available
up to 44 hours! The unit has amazing features like a bunch of "mail
boxes" that we could use for different speeches! It is about two
inches wide, half inch thin and 4.5 inches long. No tape to rewind, just
push to erase and push again for a new area of the memory to record. Super
fail-safe to prevent accidental erasing. Switch SmartMedia cards to assure
protection of that special speech.
It comes with a CD ROM for downloading into your own computer. Managing
your files is very easy, just like the big-time folks in broadcasting.
It is also compatible with the IBM ViaVoice speech recognition system.
Up to this point I have not been interested in digital since the good
DAT units were $995 and lacking the flexibility compared to the SmartMedia
card which is now prominent in cameras. The plug-in card is the size of
a large postage stamp.
The recorder has a myriad of other features, including your ability to
insert changes or new thoughts in the middle of a recording. You can also
mark specific spots on a recording (to find later) through an index timer
down to the second on your function screen. It also includes a timer and
alarm feature. For those interested in operation by "voice activation"
that feature is included. (it only records when someone is talking in
that mode).
The recorder is powered by two alkaline AAA batteries. You can expect
10 hours recording time from fresh batteries. A battery level indicator
is part of the display on the function screen. Always keep fresh name
brand alkaline batteries. If the battery does not say ALKALINE, run away
very fast.
Of course, I can send you one with my assuring you must "love it
or send it back". That has been my policy for 18 years. AMEX, MC
or VISA will work. I like FedEx second day and add only $15 for their
airplane and my handling.
These are the times by using the "LP" mode on your recorder
which is desired for "auditing " and using 3M ViaVoice recognition
software for computer translation. You will want to use the "SP"
mode for best quality for reproduction to cassette or CD's.
